Barbara is Chief Executive of Halifax Opportunities Trust and its subsidiary companies.
The organisation improves the life chances of thousands of people every year and it is especially active in helping local business create local jobs, helping local people find work and encouraging and making learning available at all levels. From its formation in 2002 the organisation’s annual turnover is now £2.7m. Much of the activity is sustainable.
Barbara joined the Trust in 2002 as its first chief executive. Her career up until this point looked eclectic – although with hindsight it was excellent preparation for her current role.
After leaving art school with neither qualifications nor purpose she subsequently worked as: an administrator for an overseas aid programme in West Africa, in HR for an international construction company, as a lecturer in higher education, as a commercial manager for a FE college and then as a programme manager on a government regeneration programme. She has a degree in business and politics and a post graduate qualification in regeneration.
