Salary: £49,500 - £53,000 per annum (this includes £3,500 London Weighting)

This role is responsible for the delivery of our business development and income generation strategy in the South of England.

We are looking for an experienced and dynamic leader who will lead on our consultancy work in the South of England, developing new income streams, overseeing contract delivery and programme work as well as playing a key role in delivering Locality’s strategy through increasing and diversifying income.

The main purpose of this role is to strengthen and deliver Locality’s services, in particular by:

  • Building income-generating business streams
  • Engaging with members across the region and developing relevant services
  • Managing a service delivery/consultancy team
  • Influencing and shaping the operating environment
  • Contributing to Locality’s strategic development.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  1. Business development and income generation:
  • Develop a range of consultancy services, to ensure we have a strong offer, effective marketing, and high-quality delivery, focusing on the needs of members as a priority.
  • Develop a strong pipeline of consultancy and trading opportunities within the region develop and responding to market opportunities that meet the aims of Locality
  • Manage and develop the resourcing of delivery activity
  • Promote and sell Locality’s business offer
  • Performance manage the team to include income generation, targets, quality, etc
  • Develop external relationships including partnerships and alliances for these purposes
  • Respond to tenders for contracts and funding bids to build earned income for the organisation
  • Advise SMT on our strategic approach to services and related matters.
  1. Service delivery
  • To contribute to the delivery of services, building, developing and line managing a team of staff and associates as appropriate
  • To work with the Director of Services and the nationwide delivery team to manage contracts as necessary.
  • For the services and programme for which the post holder is responsible, ensure that:
  • contractual requirements are met alongside Locality’s wider aims
  • responsive and high quality services are provided to service users and stakeholders
  • reputational, financial, and other risk is identified and managed, through the risk management process
  • To contribute to Locality’s wider programmes and services, negotiating outputs as required
  • To work closely with the membership development team to shape the service offer to meet the needs of members.
  1. Budget targets
  • To ensure a profitable consultancy service is delivered, ensuring staff and associates are utilised effectively to maximise income and to agree income and profitability targets as required
  • To develop budgets for each contract, working with colleagues as needed, to be approved by the Director of Services
  • To monitor budgetary performance, taking remedial action as necessary, and ensure that net profitability targets are achieved.
  1. Member services
  • To work closely with colleagues in the member engagement team to build Locality’s membership and ensure members are actively engaged in the region
  • To develop the member offer on both a paid and unpaid basis, ensuring members’ needs drive the development of services
  • To work collaboratively to use members’ experience, skills and knowledge effectively through delivery, intelligence gathering and evidence collection.
  1. General staff responsibilities
  • To mainstream equality and diversity considerations into all areas of service delivery
  • To work in harmony with the organisation’s strategic aims and values; working with a combination of ambition, being respectful to others and fearless in approach
  • To work closely with the Communications team to ensure activity is within our brand guidelines and communications strategy
  • To promote and ensure compliance with the organisation’s policies
  • To provide line management including regular performance management, guidance and annual performance appraisals to a number of delivery staff
  • To manage and undertake training / professional development as necessary
  • To promote the use of technology and be self-servicing
  • To work in the most resource efficient and effective manner
  • To act as an ambassador for the organisation.
