Knowledge & skills exchange

Learn skills, get informed and be inspired by those who have ‘been there, done that’.

Within our membership there is an extraordinary reservoir of talent and experience. Through a diverse range of activities, differing in scope and scale, members are making things happen in their communities.

We want to help to ensure this unique knowledge can be shared across the movement, disseminating learning from each new achievement and each new challenge in order to inform and inspire others.

The Knowledge and Skills Exchange grants programme is designed to do just that – helping members to share and access good practice, skills and inspiration.

The details

Who can apply to the Knowledge and Skills exchange grant programme?
Full community members of Locality are eligible to apply to this programme.

How much is available?
Locality will provide grants of up to £500 for one member to visit another organisation. Grants are paid once the exchange has taken place, and receipts and feedback have been received by Locality.  These must be received within four months of the exchange taking place.

What can the grant be used for?
Locality will support peer to peer learning activities which promote the exchange and sharing of good practice.  For example, this may include:

  • visiting other projects to get ideas and be inspired
  • an away day for a group of organisations
  • meetings to share top tips for best practice in running successful enterprises or buildings

Each exchange should be structured around a specific piece of work or an identified knowledge gap.  The programme will support travel and accommodation costs, venue hire and catering, a payment for host organisations, the costs of a facilitator, support costs and associated materials.

Unfortunately grants can‘t be used for salaries, bursaries for training courses or seminars, or for the purchase of capital equipment or software and publications.  In addition, all applications will be examined on a case by case basis.

What do we need from you?
After the exchange we require you to complete a short feedback report explaining what was achieved through the exchange, and a breakdown of how the money was spent, backed up with receipts. It’s as simple as that!
