Community Centre Week 19 – 25 July

Social action

It’s not long now till Community Centre Week on 19 to 25 July. Community Centre Week is a chance to celebrate the invaluable work which community centres do.

If you run, work in or volunteer at a community centre – Community Centre Week is for you. It’s an opportunity to stage an event, have a party, or just bring the local community together.

How to celebrate Community Centre Week

Community Centre Week is all about getting people together. Get involved however suits you – by holding an event, organising a competition, or doing something creative.

Here are a few top tips:

Get creative

Encourage your choir, poetry or singing group to come up with a unique CCWeekUK song, poem or short story that sums up what they love about community centres. Post pictures or videos on Facebook or Twitter – to inspire others and share the love!

Create a pop-up park

Create your own pop up park, indoors or out, organize a picnic, make kites (carrying the @CCWeekUK and #loveyourcc) – encourage everyone to bring something to create their own unique park for the day- or the entire week!

Photo exhibition & competition

Encourage your young people to take photos or make a short film that sum up what their community centre means to them, ask them to create and host an exhibition or a screening, and post their creations on Facebook and Twitter.

Organising an event? Here’s a poster to help spread the word.

If you’re looking forward to Community Centre Week – share it on twitter #loveyourcc

Locality is proud to support Community Centre Week – first launched in 2014 by a group of organisations called the Octopus Community Network, including six Locality members.
