Thatcham Vision Full Member

Thatcham Vision is the local organisation formed to write Thatcham’s parish plan. We are totally community based and focussed only on the town and parish of Thatcham in West Berkshire, in co-operation with the town and district councils. The parish comprises a mix of dense new housing surrounded by very rural areas. Thatcham is one of the oldest settlements in the UK at 13,000 years old, but recent pressure on housing and population has caused the old village to undergo major changes, so residents are now very keen to have a bigger say in the future character of the town. Our aim is to improve life for residents in six main topics: childcare, senior citizens, travel & transport, community safety, population development & infrastructure and sports, leisure & culture. Our strength comes from the community and all the residents who volunteer their time, enthusiasm and above all wisdom to making Thatcham a better place to live. In order to write the parish plan we spend a lot of time consulting the community. We ran a big consultation survey that achieved nearly 2,000 responses from 25,000 residents, have a presence at major local events and formed a team of residents for each of our six topics. In all, we have recruited over 100 volunteer residents, all now directly involved in creating our parish plan. It’s our vision that their dedication and enthusiasm will drive the future of the town.
