Marsden Mechanics is the community-owned hub of the beautiful West Yorkshire village of Marsden.

We play host to gigs, events, fairs, festivals, community projects and everything a vibrant community needs. Since 2017 the building has been run by Marston Community Trust on behalf of the community of Marsden.

About the role

Marsden Community Trust offers a unique opportunity for enthusiastic candidates who have:

The Trust is responsible for the Marsden Mechanics, an iconic listed building at the heart of Marsden, an historic village set in the beautiful Pennine Hills. It plays host to events, fairs, festivals, workshops, meetings – everything a vibrant community needs.

Embracing the challenges of last year, the Trust has been successful in winning significant funding to improve and future proof the building for generations. This post is key to increasing the utilisation of this vital community asset. You will take responsibility for strengthening further the community hub role of Marsden Mechanics.

You will be supported by ambitious Board members who have a track record of taking on the challenges that such a building brings.

The post is hours a week for three years initially, with the future of the post being determined by the success of the initiatives the post holder brings to this much loved community asset.

Essential requirements

Organisational skills – The ability to organise own workload and set priorities with minimum supervision

Commercial Awareness – To have a working knowledge of building and venue promotion

Adaptability – The ability to be flexible in working methods, managing personal change and adopting new ideas

Creativity – The ability to create innovative marketing solutions to new and existing problems

Good team working skills – The ability to work with colleagues and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and experience, helping others in their roles as needed

Communication skills – The ability to communicate ideas and concepts to a range of individuals and groups

Numerical skills – The ability to cost out proposals and work to a given budget

IT skills – The ability to use common word processing, presentation and financial packages

Marketing and Coms Experience and Knowledge – To understand key concepts of marketing and communications. To have worked in a marketing and communications role, including developing and delivering marketing solutions

Report Writing Skills – The ability to write clear and concise reports for board members to consider

Desirable requirements 

Marketing Qualification – To hold or be working to achieve a recognised professional marketing qualification. Membership of Professional marketing body

Knowledge of local area – To have an understanding and knowledge of the local area around Marsden, its challenges and opportunities

Knowledge of local agencies, charities, voluntary bodies – To have an understanding and knowledge of the key local agencies including their work and priorities
