The vision of the partnership was to bring businesses and community together for the benefit of the town centre. Now the community hub offers a holistic approach to addressing disadvantage and works with some of the most vulnerable communities in Birmingham through help into work, money advice, health programmes, IT skills, food bank and volunteering opportunities.
Northfield Community Partnership offers a whole range of support from its community hub on Northfield high street
The partnership carries out projects in the wider community too by supporting local groups and helping to put on events including Northfield Beach, play opportunities and young people’s events.
Northfield Beach – bringing the seaside to the town centre
One of these projects was Our Place where NCP brought together partner organisations and the community to develop a plan for ‘Community Access Points’, a network of community organisations that would join up services and develop a common assessment framework so vulnerable people only had to tell their story once.
Locality worked with NCP over a period of 6 months to:
- Develop a logic model – a way of working with the community and partners to develop a shared response to the challenge.
- Work through their service transformation – what were they trying to change and why, who should they be working with to make this happen.
- Develop their Operational Plan – Locality’s Relationship Manager worked alongside NCP to think through their work on; community and asset mapping, governance structures, their outcomes and the impact this new service would have on people in Northfield.
Following a successful sign-off of their Operational Plan from DCLG, NCP are steaming ahead with plans for Community Access Points across Northfield, as well as launching new and exciting projects like Smart Works, supporting women into employment.
