Day one: Locality Convention
Tuesday 8 November – In person programme
The experience of the pandemic has reinforced how the answers to many of the big challenges we face can be found in our local neighbourhoods. We’ve seen the power of community come to the fore, demonstrating how local community organisations provide the fulcrum for thriving neighbourhoods.
This insight is increasingly recognised in Westminster, with community power rising up the political agenda. The Levelling Up White Paper makes the strength of communities a defining mission, setting the stage for this to be a key battleground at the next general election.
Our opening plenary will bring together politicians, policy thinkers and Locality members to discuss how, following years of crisis and uncertainty, we can build a hopeful future from the ground up.
Offsite visits with packed lunch; or lunch onsite with workshops, exhibition, and 1-1 surgeries
At Locality, we have seen how community organisations have established themselves in disadvantaged neighbourhoods to drive change in places where successive governments have struggled to make a difference. So, how can policymakers support this community power and put it at the heart of their visions for national renewal?
The We’re Right Here campaign is calling for a Community Power Act, a major piece of legislation which would fundamentally change where power lies in this country. Join politicians, community leaders and policy experts to debate visions for how politics can put communities in charge.
Join us in celebrating some of the most dedicated and inspiring people and organisations in the Locality network.
