It is now over four years since the then prime minister told us; “you must stay at home”. COVID-19 has had a devastating impact across society, and posed specific – potentially existential – challenges for community organisations that own and manage community spaces.

Locality’s “Navigating the Storm” research showed how these were overcome, through the innovation of community leaders, alongside emergency funding support. But since then there has been no let up, with the cost of living crisis taking hold, and many areas now experiencing a crisis of council finances.

So… What is it like to run a community organisation in 2024? What’s changed, what hasn’t? What are the challenges and opportunities? And where do we go from here?
