Terms & Conditions

  1. General

1.1 Locality is a membership organisation and members must complete an application to join.

1.2 Members with Essentials and Membership Plus membership are deemed company members and have AGM voting rights (one member, one vote) and are eligible to stand for election to the board.

1.3 The specific benefits of membership (other than those provided in the Articles) are at our discretion and may be varied from time to time.

1.4 Members are entitled to benefits from the date on which their membership commences until their renewal date.

1.5 Locality membership applies to the organisation which joins as a member and therefore includes all staff and trustees.

1.6 Members will be issued with a membership number which may be requested when a member seeks to access member benefits.

2. Paid membership packages

2.1 The annual membership fee depends on the membership package selected.


2.2 Membership payment must be made in total before the benefits of membership with Locality can be received.

2.3 Payment can be made by credit card, BACS or Direct Debit.

2.4 If membership payment remains outstanding, we will notify you by email and, where possible, by telephone. If the payment remains outstanding beyond three months your membership may be cancelled without further notice.

2.5 All information provided by you to us must be true and accurate at the point of applying. In the event of a change of circumstances such as change of organisation name or purpose, change of contact details or any other change that will affect your profile, you should update your information by emailing members@locality.org.uk

2.6 We retain the right to amend published membership fees from time to time.

3. Benefits

3.1 Members of Locality will be able to access a range of services and benefits, each of which may have more specific terms and conditions detailed separately. Member benefits are only accessible if membership fees are up to date. Member benefits may change from time to time.  

4. Changing your membership package

4.1 During the term of membership, you can upgrade your membership package from Network to Essentials or Membership Plus, Essentials to Membership Plus, or Partner to Partnership Plus. Any remaining annual fees paid will be pro-rated and credited against the annual fee for the new package selected. The new package will commence from the first day of the following month.

4.2 Members can only move membership category once in any membership year. There is no option to downgrade membership prior to renewal date.

5. Renewal

5.1 Membership fees cover the term of one calendar year.

5.2 If you are paying by direct debit, an email notification will be sent prior to the renewal date indicating the cost of the renewed membership and the date payment will be taken.

5.3 If you are paying by credit card or BACS, email renewal reminders will be sent before the membership expires together with details of how to make your payment.

5.4 If your membership lapses, you will not be able to access the members’ area of the website or other member benefits until your membership is renewed. If membership fees are paid within three months of lapsing, membership will be retrospectively reactivated to the day following the original date of expiry.

5.5 Members selecting the Network package are required to complete an annual survey to refresh their ongoing membership.

6. Cancellation

6.1 Membership services commence as soon as an application has been processed and a fee, if appropriate, has been paid. You may cancel your membership at any time, but the membership fee is not refundable.

6.2 You must notify us in writing if you wish to cancel your membership by email at members@locality.org.uk

7. Data protection

7.1 By applying for membership of Locality, you agree that we may use your data for the following purposes:

  • We may use your contact details to send promotional information relating to member benefits and potentially relevant opportunities
  • We may send information and briefing materials about potentially relevant sector issues
  • We may use your contact details for event lists and to match with other Locality members as appropriate. .
  • We may use your contact details for research purposes.
  • We will store your details electronically in order to process applications, invoices and otherwise administer membership services

7.2 Except in connection with the activities described above or where required to do so by law, we will not share your data with non-member third parties without your permission.

8. Intellectual Property Rights

8.1 Copyright and all intellectual property rights in all material supplied by Locality us to its our members rests with Locality to the fullest extent possible.

8.2 Members may not reproduce, sell, hire or copy Locality our materials without consent.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 We will use all reasonable endeavours to ensure the materials, information or opinions supplied by us are accurate and helpful. However, we will not be liable for any loss or consequential loss you suffer in acting or omitting to act on the basis of such materials, information or opinion.

10. Force Majeure

10.1 Locality shall not be liable for any delays or failures in performance or breach of contract due to events or circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

11. Code of Conduct

11.1 We reserve the right to terminate membership should a member be deemed to have behaved in a dishonest or non-professional manner, or in a way that opposes the values set out in the relevant Value Statement. No membership fees shall be returned. View the Value Statement for community organisations and other organisations..

12. Complaints

12.1 Complaints can be made in writing by email to members@locality.org.uk and will be responded to within five working days.

12.2 If a dispute is not settled then we will attempt to resolve it by engaging in a process of mediation or arbitration.

13. Changes to terms and conditions

13.1 Locality We reserves the right to change or update these terms and conditions without prior notice.
