Community organisations across the UK are among the beneficiaries of the Guardian and Observer annual charity appeal 2022. The newspapers have featured the work of various community organisations in tackling the cost of living crisis, and they have encouraged readers to donate, with the money then distributed among Locality members, and members of DTA Scotland, DTNI and DTA Wales, as well as Citizens Advice.
Right now, as well as working with local people to improve their area over the long term, many community organisations are helping people deal with the cost of living crisis, providing food, a warm space, advice and support.
But with increasing costs, many organisations are facing serious financial pressures themselves. This funding will help community organisations across the UK to continue providing the support their local communities desperately need.
This funding allowed Locality to offer grants of £10,000 to a number of community organisations who are tackling the cost of living crisis, and some of the funding will also go to Locality to administer the grant programme and help them support communities during this difficult time. The funding will go to smaller community organisations who are delivering services to support people in the most disadvantaged communities and people in racially minoritised communities, and we will ensure that grants are distributed to a diverse range of organisations across the UK and across the regions of England. Locality members who have an Essentials or Membership plus membership are eligible, as will members of DTA Scotland, DTNI and DTA Wales. Applications closed on 17 March 2023.
