London Community Spotlight: Working with developers to secure space for communities

Against a backdrop of large scale regenerations, we speak with community organisations working with developers to secure community space.

23 May 2023 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

London is one of the world’s most vibrant cities with many large-scale regeneration schemes but it also has a housing crisis and high levels of inequality. What role should community organisations play in all this?

At this event you’ll hear the perspectives of community organisations who are partnering with developers in order to create space for communities. You’ll be able to join the debate about the pros and cons of working within regenerations and come away with shared learning about best practice. Hear from:

  • West Silvertown Foundation have worked with developers of the Royal Docks, to set up and run two community centres and are planning their own regeneration to enable them to build a new Centre to meet increasing needs.
  • London Development Trust are developing a consultancy and community stewardship offer to developers including overseeing a rapidly growing portfolio of community hubs across London.
  • Tree Shepherd have worked for ten years within regeneration schemes to create community meanwhile space, providing co working and retail units and a comprehensive support offer to new start businesses across south London.

This event is open to all London-based community organisations, whether Locality members or not.
