In this Locality Convention 2022 workshop, we discussed what is meant by a “digital future” and how to harness technology in a way that improves our practices and nurtures our communities.
This workshop was delivered by Tim Temple and Peter Jones of Locality; and Prof. Helen Manchester and Prof. Morag McDermont from Centre for Sociodigital Futures at the University of Bristol.
Key learnings and tips
There are many opportunities for community organisations and local charities to better support their communities through embracing technologies and integrating them into their work. For example:
- It can be easier for some disabled people to get and remain involved through digital platforms.
- Organising – it’s easier to create groups and make connections through digital technologies that have real life impact.
- We need to bring the right skillset and resources into the community sector to be able to fully embrace this.

If you’d like more support with any of these topics, Locality has a range of consultancy on offer. Find out more.
