Tony Armstrong, CEO of Locality, said:
“Politically speaking, this was framed as a make-or-break budget for the Chancellor. Debate in Westminster will focus on whether she threaded the needle of maintaining fiscal credibility and ending austerity while keeping Labour’s manifesto promises on tax.
“Whatever the judgement, the fundamentals for the community organisations we support will remain broadly as they were.
“We know the organisations in our network provide many of the long-term solutions the government needs, from driving local growth to reducing demand on services to creating community cohesion. But they are continuing to do it on their own steam, in the face of huge challenges, and without the consistent long-term support they need.
“That’s why our new report, 'Community Powered Neighbourhoods', calls for a bold new approach to community ownership. We need ambitious, long-term, coordinated investment in community assets – to really get behind community organisations and help them drive national renewal from the ground up.”
